JOB WE’RE HIRING: COUNCIL AMBASSADOR The Office of Council Services is recruiting a part-time Council Ambassador.
Who We Are The Office of Council Services provides administrative services to the Council Chair, the Councilmembers’ individual offices, and the Council’s district offices.
In the County’s legislative process, the role of OCS is to staff the County Council’s committees and provide objective assistance to individual Councilmembers.
Type of PositionThe Council Ambassador does not have permanent or civil service status.
This is a half-time position consisting of 20 hours per week coinciding with Committee and/or Council meetings.
Duties Summary: The primary responsibility will be to assist the Council with maintaining decorum during meetings.
The ambassador will also aid staff and the public during meetings in a cordial and professional manner.
The position will assist with the administrative services necessary for the general operations of the Council and the Office of Council Services.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Be physically present during Council and Committee meetings and monitor the meeting to assist in ensuring the safety of attendees.
Assist the Council or Committee Chair with maintaining decorum during meetings.
Assist the Council and Committee staff as needed.
Assist the public with any logistical questions as needed.
Attend evening and off-island meetings and travel between islands on ferry and small aircraft.
Maintain communication with the County Chief Security Officer, Maui Police Department, and other departments and agencies as needed.
Maintain laws, rules, and regulations for protection and safety.
Maintain a log with proper documentation of all incidents.
Prepare incident reports including all situations requiring police assistance or other departmental or agency intervention.
Attend various trainings related to the position including safety, first aid, and CPR.
When not monitoring Council and Committee meetings, assist the Office of Council Services with miscellaneous needs such as moving items, pick up and drop off of people and items, purchasing items, disposing items, and special projects such as Council Inauguration and HSAC Conference.
Other related duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Work Eligibility: All persons seeking employment with the Office of Council Services shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States or eligible under Federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States at the time of their application for employment and shall become residents of the State within 30 days after beginning their employment and as a condition of eligibility for continued employment.
