*MAUI HUMANE SOCIETY* *Job Description* _The Maui Humane Society is committed to protect and save the lives of Maui’s animals, accepting all in need, educating the community, and inspiring respect and compassion towards all animals.
_ *Job/Position Title: *Transfer Program Assistant *Status:* Part-Time Non-Exempt *Date:* January 2024 *Primary Purpose*: Actively promote and coordinate MHS transfer program in order to maximize lives saved.
Works with Pet Retention to help defer surrender by assisting with flying animals with owners off island.
Works with the Adoptions Team assisting with Off Island Adoptions.
Assists the Transfer Coordinator (TC) with all transfer operations.
Reports to the Outcomes Manager and Director of Pet Resources (DPS).
*Essential Duties/Functions:* In conjunction with the TC, will work with DACT and CACT to select animals for potential transfer.
Coordinate transfer of animals (owned, adopted, RTO) including scheduling of flights and transportation to airport; as well as ground transportation on the mainland.
In conjunction with the TC, will coordinate with the Dog Foster Coordinator the movement of shelter animals into pre-transfer foster homes.
Assist 4EP/Pet Retention with coordinating off island flights of owned animals to defer surrender.
Assist with and ensure that medical care for transfer animals is complete, including Health Certificates.
Monitor health and behavior of transfer selected animals and report findings to TC, DPS, Veterinarian and/or transfer partners.
Coordinate off island adoptions; assist with matching kennels appropriately with the animal and all corresponding supplies.
Coordinate Community Health Certificates: CVI - Certified Veterinary Inspection; create GVL; Rabies certificates; assist with matching kennels appropriately with the animal and all corresponding supplies.
Maintain accurate records in the database; PetPoint, Google Documents.
Provide requested reports.
Other duties as assigned by DPS.
*General:* Interact with coworkers and volunteers in an efficient and courteous manner to ensure a cooperative team environment amongst all departments.
Participate in disaster preparedness and response activities for the shelter and community as it pertains to pet related needs.
Responsible for keeping relevant work areas clean and organized.
Maintain and promote a positive public image standard relevant to MHS.
Help promote fundraising activities and solicit support of agency overall.
Attend and participate in departmental and shelter meetings.
Attend educational venues as recommended/approved.
Report and correct any safety hazards or unsafe use of MHS equipment.
Other duties as assigned.
*Working Conditions*: Air-conditioned office environment, shared office space, and outdoors with animals.
Includes direct contact with animals of varying degrees of handleability.
Carries a cellular phone and able to provide rapid response to urgent transfer situations when animals are in transit.
*Equipment Used: *Computer with internet access.
General office equipment and company cell phone.
Pet related items (leashes, collars, harnesses, carriers etc.
), animal restraint equipment, printers, digital camera, phone, smart phone, fax machine, copier.
*Working Hours: *While a typical workweek will be 20 hours, the position will sometimes require flexibility to cover weekends, evening events, emergencies, or other MHS activities.
*Mental Demands*: Must have ability to multitask, meet deadlines and handle stress.
Must be able to work independently while functioning in a team environment.
Position requires excellent organizational skills, a high level of accuracy and attention to details.
*Physical Demands*: The majority of this position involves desk and computer work but could also involve circumstances that require standing for long periods of time.
Position includes car travel for errands and to and from the airport.
Some lifting is required - generally should be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Animal handling is required - generally should be comfortable around all types of domestic animals.
Must be able to work at a fast and efficient pace.
*Additional Job Qualifications:* *Experience: *Experience working in an animal shelter is a plus.
Previous transfer coordinator experience or equivalent work experience is desirable.
*Knowledge: *Knowledge of basic animal care & handling, basic animal medical care, and knowledge of dog training and behavior desirable.
*Skills:* Basic computing skills (Google Apps environment; PetPoint; GVL).
Requires strong communication skills with an emphasis on written communication and the ability to work with adopters, owners and community members.
Strong organizational skills and ability to be self directed.
*Abilities:* Able to work with animals.
Effective record keeping ability.
Must be willing and able to work independently and in a team setting.
Able to remain calm and level-headed in an often stressful and emotional work environment.
Able to work with a diverse group of volunteers.
Able to use sound judgment when dealing with confidential information.
Able to multitask and prioritize job duties in a busy and constantly changing work environment.
Job Type: Part-time Pay: $18.
00 - $20.
